Digital PR

Digital PR is earning online press coverage and links by pitching newsworthy stories, data or expert comment to journalists and publications.

Digital PR uses public relations methods to win coverage on news sites, trade titles and blogs. A typical campaign builds a story, such as original research, a useful tool or a timely expert view, and pitches it to journalists. If they run it, the coverage often includes a link.

The links tend to come from higher profile sites than standard outreach can reach, but results are less predictable. A campaign can take weeks to build and still get little pickup. Success depends on whether the story is actually interesting to a reporter's readers, not on how good it looks to you.

Practical point: set expectations on coverage, not only links. Ask what the angle is, which outlets it suits, and what you'll do if the story doesn't land. Be careful with surveys and statistics. Reporters check, and weak data can hurt your credibility.

LinkHatch also offers a digital PR service.
