Structured data
Structured data is information in a fixed, machine readable format that tells search engines exactly what a page's content means.
Structured data is a standard way of organizing facts so software can read them reliably. On websites, that usually means schema markup in JSON-LD form. Instead of leaving a crawler to guess that a number is a price, you label it as one.
Search engines use it to understand pages and to show enhanced results where eligible. It can also help machines connect your pages to the things they describe, like your company, products and authors. It's not a ranking shortcut. It helps with clarity, and with eligibility for some result features.
Practical point: keep the data accurate and in sync with the visible page. Test it after changes, since a template update can quietly break it. Google Search Console reports errors and warnings for structured data it finds. Fix errors on important page types first.
